Cultural Immigrant Initiative

The Cultural Immigrant Initiative provides programming focused on the cultural history or traditions of an immigrant community in New York City and to help increase access to unique cultural offerings that focus on immigrant heritages. Cultural Immigrant Initiative is funded by The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Councilman Andrew Cohen. Over the course of these sessions, students explored and discussed a variety of visual arts and digital media using project-based learning. These projects were designed around the central theme of cultural immigration. Using the central theme of cultural immigration, students examined and discussed the techniques and processes employed by contemporary animators. Students learned how to define, identify, and discuss the basic elements of animation and storytelling. Utilizing techniques explored and themes discussed, students worked hands-on to produce and edit a stop motion animation short film.
