Images of Time and Place: ContemporaryViews of Landscape examines a broad range of artists who are working with the concept of landscape—both as the primary content as well as in a supporting role. Featuring the work of 40 artists, the exhibition explores innovative approaches to this traditional genre through paintings, drawings, photographs, installations, sculptures, and videos. The work ranges from the artifice of Kim Keever’s contrived environments to the irony of Hugo Bastidas and Adam Straus. It includes Christo’s studies for The Gates that propose aesthetic intervention on the urban, pastoral setting of Central Park and Sally Apfelbaum’s conceptual approach to photographing Monet’s garden at Giverny. Allegorical, narrative and psychological approaches in which the natural setting plays a dominant role are also included.

The exhibition is co-curated by the director of the gallery Susan Hoeltzel and its founding director Nina Sundell.
