Rambusch: Art and Design From 1898
The exhibition, RAMBUSCH ART AND DESIGN FROM 1898 will examine commissions and restoration projects by the Rambusch Decorating Company as it approaches its centennial year. Established in 1898 by a Danish immigrant painter-decorator, Rambusch is a family firm now in its fourth generation. Among its commissions are cathedrals, synagogues, libraries, opera houses, state capitals, monuments and historical sites. The firm’s design and stained glass studios are in Greenwich Village and its art metal and lighting workshop are located in Clifton New Jersey.
The exhibition will include original design studies, full-scale shop drawings, as well as, stained glass, repousse, woodworking, crystal, and mosaics. Projects in the exhibition range from the interior design for the Waldrof Astoria and Roxy Theatre to lighting and design for the Old Senate Chamber in Washington D.C. and R.H. Macy’s at Herald Square. Bronx projects include designs for St. Raymond’s Church and Morris High School.
A concurrent exhibition of contemporary projects, RAMBUSCH CURRENT WORK: THE PROCESS OF DESIGN, will be on view at the National Arts Club from Monday, April 4, and will run through Sunday May 1.
